DARBY MOAA CHAPTER
PO Box 180755, Fort Smith, AR 72918
NEXT MEETING
Since we had to cancel the April meeting Chapter Pres Roger Rickard did not want to go three months without a meeting so we are having a special called 'social' meeting on Thursday, 12 May 2022 at Golden Coral, 1801 S. Waldron Rd, Ft Smith, AR. you will proceed thru the line and pay for your meal - we have a meeting room reserved. Bob Moody, Founder of Maggie House will introduce Deborah Christian, Administrator of Young House who will update us on the vast need for foster care in our area. Hope you can attend.
Our June meeting will be Tuesday, 14 June 2022, 6:00 PM at the Crawford County Sheriff's Department Firing Range, 3734 Oliver Springs Road, Van Buren, AR.
Chapter business meetings are the second Thursday of every other month (Feb, Apr, Jun, Aug, Oct & Dec) at 6:00 PM. Hardscrabble Country Club in Ft Smith looks to be a good candidate for our permanent meeting location unless we have a "field trip" or other special meeting planned. Please spread the word.
Chapter planning meetings with the President & Committee Chairs are the second Tuesday at 4:00 PM during the months between Chapter business meetings (Jan, Mar, May, Jul, Sep & Nov). All members are invited to attend these also.

- See below for info on our 10 February 2022 meeting:
- For the February meeting we had dinner and met at Hardscrabble Country Club, 5211 Cliff Drive in Fort Smith. Our speaker was Mr. Kendall Ross, Director of the Center for Business and Professional Development (CBPD) at the University of Arkansas - Fort Smith. Kendall provided us an update on their operations in the 'bakery district', the location of their offices in the former Shipley Baking complex. It was very interesting and the only type of economic development partnership between an institute of higher learning and a community in the state. Our own Carey Tucker (UAFS Vice Chancellor for Finance and Administration) introduced Kendall. In addition, Carey invited Dr Dean Cantu (UAFS Dean of the College of Health, Education and Human Services) as his guest. Dr Cantu is a former intelligence officer in the US Army and all should encourage him to join the Darby MOAA Chapter.
- Cost was $25 per person. Dress was business casual as per usual and spouse/guests/significant others are always welcome.
- Please RSVP ASAP to one of the following:

Attention, Hot Topics!
Darby Legislative Committee Chair John Posey wants to implore everyone to contact the Governor’s Office and request that he place the 100% Disabled Veteran State Sales Tax Exemption at the Point of Sale on his agenda for a Special Legislative Session if he calls one. We are making a big push to get a State Law passed in the 2023 General Assembly Exempting all 100% Disabled Veterans from paying State Sales Tax at the Point of Sale but with the breaking news that the State might be facing a $1 billion budget surplus Plan A is to pass this law in a Special Session. Plan B will be to reach out to your State Rep’s & Sen.’s and ask them to make this law in the 2023 General Assembly if we fail to get it in the Special Session. SO PLEASE CALL THE ARKANSAS GOVERNOR'S OFFICE AND ASK HIM TO PLACE THE 100% DISABLED VETERAN SALES TAX EXEMPTION ISSUE ON THE AGENDA IF HE CALLS A SPECIAL LEGISLATIVE SESSION! Thank You
